RYAN GUILFOYLE
I first found out about Ryan and the Trible run club late 2023 at the beginning of my running journey and what he has created is unbelievable. Ryan started the run club during covid in centennial Park and it started of small and now has turned into 600 to 1000 people turning up ever Wednesday night to run his 3k 5k or 8k run. He is so welcoming and down to earth and has time for everyone wither it be there first run or they're running for year but treat everyone the same. He sacrifices his own training to run with people that might have come alone or just haven't run befour and that in turn has made Ryan and the Trible run club one of the biggest in Sydney. And while this takes massive time and effort on his behalf its all free he dose it for the love of the sport and of the people a nicer young man you will not meet.
Cóilin DALY
Cóilin arrived in Sydney circa 2011 and soon got in involved in Cormac Mc Anallen's GAA Club. Around 2013 Cóilin progressed to become a member of Mac's committee taking various roles within the Club, managing successful camogie and men's teams , raising significant finances and raising the profile of the Club within the GAA scene in Sydney. Cóilin soon progressed to the NSW Committe and has been the Chairperson since 2018. He is also Director of Australasian Gaelic Games.
Under Coílin's stewardship the NSW GAA association has grown from strength to strength, each year the membership had grown, to unprecedented numbers totalling 1500 at present. There are nine clubs in total, with 39 teams playing ladies football, Camogie, Mens Football and Hurling. While amalgamation of the three organisations is a work in progress for GAA, LGFA and Camogie in Ireland- in Sydney this works seamlessly with Cóilin and his wonderful committee overseeing up to 19 games, across three pitches each Sunday.
Colin has built a great relationship with the AFL, which resulted in the wonderful facilities we have in Ingleburn, to building relationships with Councils, which hopefully will deliver a huge coup to NSW GAA in the near future
Cóilin is a married man with 2 very young children , yet he manages to cut the grass on the 3 fields, mark the pitches, stock the shop via trips to Taste of Ireland and Costco, many times weekly in peak season, and everything else administratively that needs to be done.
Another outstanding success by Cóilin was the reintroduction of NSW Kids GAA program for children that occurred over multiple weekends from October 2024 to March 2025 seeing almost 300 children benefit from our games, which was a massive success for the Irish community across Sydney. This programme will be running again in 2025 / 2026 & is showing fantastic signs of growing from strength-to-strength year on year.
The time dedicated to the role of chairperson is all consuming and Cóilin currently entering his 8th year continues to work to progress, develop and strengthen the organisation.
Coilin has been instrumental in securing the New Home of GAA in NSW, Whalen Reserve Blacktown, which will secure the long term future for the association an unprecedented 50 year lease of the ground.
His commitment to the GAA community in Sydney has been exceptional and is fully deserving of this nomination.
